Commemorative plaque at Creux-de-Genthod

On 15 May 2025, a plaque in memory of Ella Maillart et Hermine de Saussure was unveiled at Le Creux-de-Genthod. This is a commune near Geneva, where the Maillart family used to spend, between 1913 and 1924, the six months of the summer season, renting a small house belonging to the de Saussure family. It was during these stays that Ella Maillart befriended Hermine de Saussure and was introduced to sailing. She developed a passion for boats and became an outstanding regatta competitor, at a time when sport was becoming a means of emancipation for women.
